If there is a psychological finish line for this trip, it is the southbound pass through Dunsmuir, a very beautiful town at the foot of Mount Shasta.
A 5-minute walk down the main drag has triggered so many cool memories. And the beauty of small towns is that 12 years is just a blip for them. The visitor’s center has moved, but the Pizza Factory with its second-floor game room, the auto repair shop, the little diner with the pink tablecloths, and the 24/7 drinking fountains are all still here…with a big smile…ready to help if I don’t quite make it this far on my way back down.
The Van has done great. I can travel on from here peacefully knowing that Dunsmuir and all of its charm, beauty and support will be right here waiting for me when I come back through 6 days from now.
